There are 37,300 people with a disability covered by Medicaid in Nevada. Nevada spent $14,279 on each Medicaid recipient with a disability in 2007.

15% of all people covered by Medicaid in Nebraska have a disability, which is the same as the national percentage of people covered by Medicaid who have a disability.

Nevada spends 47% of all the money it spends on Medicaid on services for people with disabilities, however, which is higher than the national percentage of Medicaid spending on these services (42%).

Nevada Basic Medicaid Programs

The State of NevadaMandatory Health Maintenance Program:

This program allows access to health care for children with special needs as defined by the state, which is “any child with a parent that deems them to have a special need.” These children are provided voluntary enrollment or disenrollment at any time, unless the child resides in an intermediate care facility.

  • Health Health: ambulatory surgical centers, nursing services, chiropractic, dental, disposable medical supplies, durable medical equipment, early and periodic screening, diagnosis and treatment, hearing, hospitalization, mental health, intravenous treatment, laboratory, medical rehabilitation, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician services, podiatry, prosthetics, psychologists, respiratory therapy, rural health clinics, nursing facilities, special clinics, speech therapy, transitional rehabilitation, vision, x-ray

Non-Emergency Transportation Program:

This program can help pay for transportation to and from routine, scheduled doctor’s appointments and related medical errands. Some people who are also eligible for Medicare will not be covered.

Nevada HCBS Waiver Programs

The State of NevadaHCBS waiver for Persons with MR and Related Conditions:

This waiver provides support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live at home or in community-based arrangements instead of in institutions.

  • Community Community: community habilitation
  • Health Health: individual and group counseling
  • Home Home: residential habilitation, supported living services, respite care

HCBS waiver for Persons with Physical Disabilities:

This waiver provides services for people with physical disabilities who need care but want to remain at home or in a community setting.

Level of Care: nursing

  • Health Health: emergency response
  • Home Home: homemaker services, home delivered meals, attendant care
  • Social Services Social Services: case management

Aged and Disabled waiver:

This waiver covers adults over the age of 65 or adults with disabilities who want to receive services while living in the community.

Ages: adults with disabilities, or adults over 65 with or without disabilities

Level of Care: nursing

Restrictions: This waiver may be restricted depending on where in Nevada you live.
